The boy who knew too much: a child prodigy

This is the true story of scientific child prodigy, and former baby genius, Ainan Celeste Cawley, written by his father. It is the true story, too, of his gifted brothers and of all the Cawley family. I write also of child prodigy and genius in general: what it is, and how it is so often neglected in the modern world. As a society, we so often fail those we should most hope to see succeed: our gifted children and the gifted adults they become. Site Copyright: Valentine Cawley, 2006 +

Composers for Relief: Supporting the Philippines

Composers for Relief: Supporting the Philippines is a charity album, to raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Ainan, 13, at the time, was invited by Peter Ebbinghaus, the German producer (from the company Soundtracks and Trailer Music) of this album, to contribute one of his own compositions to the album. Ainan then went to a recording studio, and, at our own expense, in support of the charity, recorded five of his compositions, to be offered to Mr. Ebbinghaus. He chose Renaissance – Ainan’s shortest piece, but the one that sounded most classical.

Renaissance was made available on Amazon and iTunes along with the entire album, on December 12th 2013. This marks the first time any of Ainan’s music has been commercially available to the public. You may download Renaissance from Amazon for just 99 cents, US or indeed the entire album of 28 tracks by 30 composers (some established, indeed famous, others up and coming), for just 8.99 USD on Amazon.

I do hope you can all support this charity initiative by buying the album or Ainan’s piece, if funds are tight. All profits go to Gawad Kalinga, an NGO working in the Philippines to distribute food packets to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. It is also working to reconstruct the damaged areas.

Some of you know that Ainan started out his intellectual life as a Chemist, then developed interests in Mathematics, Computer Programming and many other sciences and humanities subjects. When he was 12, he taught himself to play the piano and began composing immediately. Renaissance was composed when he had just turned 13 years old.

Renaissance is the first piece of music Ainan has ever made available to the world. I hope you take the step of buying it for your collection. It is just a short piece, yes...but it will one day be seen as a significant one, simply because it is the first piece of music, Ainan ever released. Also of note is that Ainan is the person playing the piano, in the you get to hear him play, as well as compose.

Of note is that Ainan published Renaissance in the same weekend that he released the film The Sempiternal, which he conceived, wrote, directed and edited. Thus he became a film-maker and a recording artist/professional composer, in the same weekend. That has to be a first of some kind.

Thanks to Peter Ebbinghaus of Soundtracks and Trailer Music, for inviting Ainan to contribute to Composers for Relief. Ainan much enjoyed the opportunity and feels privileged to have been able to contribute to such a good cause.

Thank you, in advance, for supporting the victims of Typhoon Haiyan by buying Ainan’s music.
